Past Weekend in review June 27th 2009

A pleasure to be back at Traditions at Links in Fayetteville this past weekend for Max and Hayleys Mitzvah!

Max and Hayley were adopted from Russia and it was a heartfelt party – we produced the montage video for them which got a standing ovation and also provided the photo booth for the kids and adults which was a huge hit!

Since purchasing our photo booth we have been overwhelmed with inquiries for the booth
www.cnyphotobooths.com

We also provided up lighting with our new fixtures all around the main room at Traditions – it was good to work with Kim and her staff again at Traditions where we are frequently for Bat and Bar Mitzvahs and Wedding Receptions – back there in a few weeks!
This weekend coming is another WOW – Thursday in New Hartford, Friday at Turning Stone Club Shenandoah (again- we are there so many times thanks to referrals from past clients and also the Banquet Manager at Turning Stone) wedding reception – then Saturday off to Justin’s Grill for another Wedding Reception!
It never stops!
We have been confirmed by The Make A Wish Foundation for the lavish event in Binghamton on Friday August 7th 2009 to benefit Josef – making his wish come true – we are offering our services totally free – usually a $2500 package including the photo booth and my personal package which includes all the bells and whistles, lighting, intelligent lighting, up lighting, tivoli lighting, and more!
We try to do as many charity events as possible and try to give as much in value as possible!

Michael Jackson

When hearing the news about Michael Jackson’s death it was like I had lost a personal friend – having been brought up when the Jackson 5 launched their career and remembering that ABC song and buying the 7 inch record myself and playing it over and over at home it struck me how unkind and unpredictable life can be.michael-jackson1
I followed Michael’s career through the years and remember being in Germany at the
time he launched the album Thriller -  wow what an album it was and what a floor filler at the clubs I was playing at!
Now myself at aged 53 and Michael passing at 50 it makes me realize what life can be like, and how important life really is, but how short it can end up being.
Daily we battle with life itself and all the rules and regulations we have to abide by, and the do’s and do not’s, the misery and the pain and little joy that actually happens in life – we see suffering and people who hurt and abuse each other and kill each other in war and greed -  why is life so unkind?
Michael was accused of many things, like many of us are accused of many times in out
life – is anyone perfect – no.
Michael for me was a symbol of kindness and a person who simply wanted to smile and make people happy but most of all he was just like you and me – a human being with a heart.
I do not want to listen to people putting him down or saying negative things about him
as we will see emerge on the media throughout this time – already people have started to profit from his death by selling t shirts and clothing – why is everything about money?
I know one thing which will never change – Michael for me was brilliant, and Michael had his heart in the right place.
God Bless you Michael wherever you are – your star will shine forever above wherever I look into the night.

Client review

We used Kevin for our daughters Bat Mitzvah, and could not be happier with the our choice.  From the first conversation, Kevin was actively involved, open with advice, and committed to making the day beyond comparison.  The on-line tools allowed us to preselect songs.  The form allowed us to choreograph and script various parts of the celebration.  The lights, games, bubbles, and prizes made it a wholly enjoyable day for adults and children.  From a parents perspective, having someone to lead the planning of events was invaluable!  It allowed me to focus on everything else during the days before, and the day of the event.  From the perspective of my daughter (the only one that really matters), it was PHENOMENAL.  Of all the Bar and Bat Mitzvah’s she has attended, she felt this was the best DJ experience by far.  She walked away from a special day feeling like the experience was greatly enhanced by Kevin and his team, and feeling like there was nothing that could have been done to make it more special.  Above and beyond simply recommending him to others, I am already decided on using him for my sons Bar Mitzvah in a few years.
Thank you!

Purpose…

The purpose of this blog is to post information that otherwise would not be on the website at kevincolangelo.com, and have a open window to new clients so they can see updates, reviews and pictures of the events as we do them week by week:

I think its utterly important to be factual and honest with clients by posting all information here on the blog which allows potential clients to see reviews from events we have done right after they are received:

Some people may view it as ‘bragging’ or as one person recently said ( a competitor DJ Service locally) posting ego driven reviews – well if anyone wants to read it as that then they can read anything anyone posts and make it into something its not….the reviews here are not posted because of my ego or for any other reason that allowing potential clients to see what clients say about our service – after all most clients request references from us when inquiring about our service anyway!

Allowing you to read where we have been, when and how gives you the potential client an idea of where we go to how we do it – again no other purpose other than being informative to you the client.

However one thing that I will not allow is posting cliche canned sayings and quotes like – “simply the best DJ service” or “your wedding your way” (how many DJs use that term…about 4 locally I have seen on their website’s) – or things like “the quality you can trust” – saying those things make me think of vacuum cleaner commercials or commercials on radio stations for car sales..lol

If a client says our service was spectacular or amazing we post it but never put those words into ones mouth so to speak – it is only amazing or spectacular if the client says so;

Many people have asked why we think we are different from other DJ services – the answer is simple – because we are….and if you want to compare us to others then go ahead and meet with us and see the real difference yourself as to many clients when meeting with us – our fresh new idea’s on old theme’s and out of the box approach are truly there for you to see and unfortunately or fortunately too often we see other services copying what we do in every way….we do not need to mention those here or try to justify what we do or who does it first…as long as we know that is all that matters.

Innovation and truly new idea’s are what we are:

Why do something that another DJ service does or do something that has been done for years and never changed?

Many of our clients do not want the typical cliche elements in their event – weddings especially – I hear so many people say – we do not want those hokey songs like the chicken dance and electric slide or tacky hats and party favors, DJ joke telling or hokey pokey canned sayings or introductions of a bridal party with star wars theme (how innovative is that!)..or do they want their wedding turned into some kind of circus with a DJ taking over or reading the life story for 20 minutes about how the bride and groom met each other – that is for the best man and his speech.

You know what really bugs me?…DJ’s with clip boards – I am sorry but I have to say it here but I hate that!..A MC/DJ walking round a room at your wedding with a clipboard turning the pages as he announces the bridal party standing right in the doorway getting in the way of pictures and looking like he is calling out roll call at school or bingo!…lol..I am sorry I just hate that ‘look’ – we never use clipboards or walk around clutching masses of paper flipping through them as we go.

Now that we have purchased a photo booth and actually got one ‘in house’ we offer this at a discounted rate when booking our services for your wedding rather than you having to go elsewhere and pay full price with photo booth vendors or pay a DJ service to subcontract a photo booth for you when they have not got one themselves.

Our lighting is like no other service and we have been asked many times to just supply lighting for an event with a band and also lighting for tents inside and outside even in parking lots and area’s outside where guests wander at night;

Our up lighting is owned by us and not rented or borrowed from anyone else and is truly not low end or cheap LED fixtures – we use elation up lights we recently purchased from VT at around $1,500 per fixture in comparison to lower end units which cost around $200 each – no they do not do the same job.We use different types of up lighting and different fixtures – depending on budget and situation. Our up lighting inventory now spans about 30 units and we can light up walls, pillars and ceilings – see our website here for more detailed information:

http://www.kevincolangelo.com/uplighting.html

We also offer montages made by us and video and screen projection with high end projection at affordable pricing:

I hope this information has been useful to you and I will skip the more detailed parts so you can browse the website and see more yourself

Email from Photographer Chrissy Albright

Hi Kevin!

We worked together at the Carder/Nespoli wedding last year (September 13, Casa Larga). I hope that your wedding season is off to a great start!

I wanted to send you a quick email because I’m trying to refine my clientele next year to be a little more high-end, and I’d like to connect with some great wedding planners in the area. You were (by far!) the best DJ I worked with last season, and so I wondered if you might have any wedding planners or coordinators that you would recommend I look into…? I’m mainly working in Central New York and Albany right now, and I’m looking to expand into Manhattan next year.

Anyway, if you get a chance to let me know your thoughts I’d really appreciate it!
I hope all is going well for you; last we spoke, it seemed like business was going great, so I hope that’s still true. ;)

All the best,
Chrissy

Incredible last 7 days!

Where do I start!

I am lucky to be able to write this having no spare time for the past 7 days with all the events we have been doing but here at 4am Sunday night early Monday morning I thought I would post this here..and then go to bed!

Last weekend I planned and organized a Indian wedding ceremony and reception over 2 days for a wonderful family in Manlius – the Katur family, and having been responsible for not only supplying the DJ and entertainment services for both days but also responsible for staffing the entire event with valets, bar staff, waiter staff, personal assistants together with getting portable bathrooms, over 2200 drinking receptacles, olives, lemons, straws, stirrers, cherry’s and organizing the tent rentals, together with a host of other duties prior to the wedding, I also supplied the outside lighting using generators and 5000 watts of halogen floods!

I set up the outside lighting Thursday night in the pouring rain ready for Friday and Saturday as I was off to south of Buffalo to MC a wedding at a huge banquet facility starting at 10pm so I had to leave Syracuse around 9am Friday morning!

We uplighted the entire room using new fixtures we purchased recently now adding another 14 LED fixtures to our arsenal of lighting – now totaling 24 LED par cans, 14 Mega Bars, 8 elation bars and 14 Par 56 cans !

Not to mention our new tivoli feature!

Then after being thanked over and over by the bride on Friday night well after midnight we left Buffalo and arrived back around 6am Saturday morning to sleep a little then off to our favorite place – The Turning stone Casino club Shenandoah for Ross’s Bar Mitzvah – arriving there around 3pm Saturday afternoon with a 4 hour set up, and also using our photo booth that we recently purchased and have many bookings for between now and 2010!

Thanks again to the Turning Stone for recommending our services to so many couples!!!

Thanks Steve, Jeff, Alan Dan, Joanna and all the staff at TS !

Wade Live also provided entertainment and we also provided up lighting and special effects:

A selection of photos from all events are below;

The Indian wedding went very well and I was asked to possibly be involved in planning the Katur’s daughter’s wedding too in the future!

Maybe I will become a full time wedding planner as this is the 3rd wedding I have done as a planner!..lol

Now this weekend its as busy with a wedding at Belhurst Castle Friday and then onto another one on Saturday……more later!
